Theta’s founders—Bettie Locke, Alice Allen, Hannah Fitch, and Bettie Tipton—were among the first women admitted to Indiana Asbury College (now DePauw University). Being first required courage! They were taunted by male students and endured discrimination from faculty and townspeople. Each year the women had to overcome new challenges, yet they persevered.
In establishing Kappa Alpha Theta, our founders created a women’s fraternity in which they could learn, grow, support one another, and be part of something larger than themselves. We, the members of Gamma Nu Chapter, are proud to follow in their footsteps.
Our members are athletes and artists, musicians and mathematicians, dreamers and doers; we play an active role in campus life.
Mission
Kappa Alpha Theta nurtures each member throughout her lifetime, offering opportunities for intellectual and personal growth.
Vision
Leading every member to personal excellence through lifelong sisterhood.
